Technical Requirements

For successful completion of your Safety Engineering distance learning coursework, you will need the following minimum technology:

  1. Computer: (these are the lowest computer requirements)
    1. A Pentium 4 or better machine with Windows XP or newer operating system
    2. Operating speed 500 MHz
    3. 512MB RAM
    4. 80G hard drive
    5. Video card with at least 2MB RAM
    6. Sound card
    7. Speakers
    8. CD-ROM
  2. Internet Connection:
    1. Ethernet (company LAN) or
    2. DSL connection or
    3. Cable modem connection
  3. Additional/Optional Hardware:
    1. At least 512 MB of extra storage medium (zip drive, thumb drive, flash drive, CD burner, DVD burner) – this is highly recommended
    2. Printer or printer access
    3. Scanner and or fax machine access
  4. Software Requirements:
    1. E-mail software (or web-based e-mail account)
    2. Anti-virus software – make sure it is up to date!
    3. It is highly recommended that Microsoft Internet Explorer v. 5.0 or above be installed
    4. Microsoft Office 2000 or newer

  5. Software Requirements, Free downloads:

    2. Flash 4 Plugin
    3. QuickTime
    4. RealPlayer
    5. PowerZip (lets you zip and unzip files directly from My Computer or Windows Explorer)

    7. Web Browser
    8. Java Scripting
