Additional Information

Purpose of position Provide training and curriculum development for the Texas Mine Safety and Health Program.

Essential functions Plan, organize, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate full day training programs. Handle inquiries from clients concerning safety training and assist with creating training plans for clients. Review and develop training programs, techniques, and materials for safety programs. Keep abreast of new developments in training, hardware and software technology. Present at safety councils though out the state of Texas. Function as a project manager on departmental programs and projects. Assist with the coordination of two conferences. Drive personal and or rental vehicle to various intrastate and interstate locations. Extensive travel throughout the State of Texas and some travel outside of Texas.

Licenses: Class “C” Operator’s Driver’s License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver’s License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a field related to work. Five years of experience training adults. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) approved instructor. Experience with MS Office and Outlook. Use of personal computer and other standard office equipment. Interpersonal communication skills, work as a team member, excellent command of English language and grammar, and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred qualifications Master’s degree in a field related to the work. More than five years of experience training adults, in both the public and private sectors and experience in developing programs and writing training materials. MSHA approved instructor is preferred over OSHA approved instructor. Credentials in First Aid, CPR, AED, and those required by MSHA. Excellent command of Spanish and English language and grammar.

Working conditions May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs. Climbing of ladders. Lifting and moving. Lifting and moving training material up to 50 lbs. Extensive travel to training sites throughout the State of Texas.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
