The Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center announces new director

December 17, 2021

The Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center is excited to announce the appointment of our new director, Dr. Faisal Khan.

Khan is a leading authority in safety and risk engineering, particularly in offshore areas. He has developed risk-based methodologies that have been widely adopted by the industry. He published hundreds of research articles in reputed journals and delivered an enormous number of invited speeches. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Process Safety and Environmental Protection. He has been nominated as a Fellow of the Canadian National Academy of Engineering.

Before joining MKOPSC, Khan was the director for the Centre for Risk, Integrity and Safety Engineering (C-Rise) at the Memorial University in Canada, which he established as a multidisciplinary center of excellence with over 100 members. He also established the process engineering program and secured more than $18 million from industry, worldwide, to support C-RISE researchers. He served as head of the Process Engineering Department and associate dean of engineering at Memorial University in the past.

Khan has officially joined MKOPSC as of June 2021. We are sure he will make a great addition as director and are excited to see the progress he will incite.
