Leading Indicators for Lithium-Ion Battery Safety Concerns

In the wake of an increase in safety incidents involving Lithium-Ion batteries, an adjustment to the currently implemented protocols has grown increasingly important. The risk of thermal runaway, an exothermic reaction that can occur from electrical, thermal, or mechanical abuse to a lithium-ion cell, calls for change. The ability to detect thermal runaway earlier than what is currently possible will allow for the safe use of lithium ion batteries and other rechargeable batteries for their applications in electrical vehicles and other energy storage systems.
